Everyone has his or her own traditions. Personally, there are several customs and beliefs that I have been taught ever since I was young. One of them is to respect elders. My dad always emphasized to me how important it is to respect any person who is older than me in terms of age. I was also told that if I did not respect elderly people they could curse me. That is why I always do my best to offer respect to my superiors regardless of whether they are related to me or not.I do not speak another language at home apart from English. I was raised by a Latino mother and an Italian father who both spoke English language frequently and for that reason I did not get a chance to learn any other language. At some point I feel disadvantaged especially when I meet with people who can speak more than three langua ges. I have however tried to learn a few other languages such as Spanish and French and I can say that I am not badly of. I realized the importance of knowing more than one language especially when I joined the military and posted outside the United States. Communicating with people speaking a language that you cant even comprehend is one of the most challenging things.Life in Afghanistan has taught me a lot of things. I work with a private security company and my main aim of moving to Afghanistan was to earn a living as well as protect the interests of my country. Being away from home sometimes makes me feel lonely especially when I remember my family and my childhood. Nonetheless, working in Afghanistan has taught me a lot of things. It has helped me understand that not everyone has privileges in life. Seeing people being killed almost every day and others dying because of hunger is something I had never imagined would happen to anyone.My way of thinking has completely changed esp ecially after moving to work in Afghanistan.
